I assume you tried switching your Connectivity Status between invitation only, friends and everybody, and using the Invite Players function from that window (icon on top of the mini-map)?
A couple people with connection problems mentioned being able to play using Hamachi or Tunngle.
There is an update scheduled for Thursday, but as far as changes there have only been a couple gameplay issues mentioned.
