Madora isn't useless, you need to learn better positioning so you can be effective with your spells while minimizing friendly fire.
I stopped putting points into 2-Handed weapons because it was adding like 2 points of damage - essentially worthless compared to the next tier of weapon. That's where my points for Way of the Ranger came from. .
