Aren't they to powerfull ? Shouldn't they just fill some weaknesses, instead of being you main fire power ? Or maybe they are the real heroes, and the PCs are just henchmen to the henchmen, and we don't know that...

There are still balancing adjustments to be made. There were changes being made to the main characters as the henchmen were added to the alpha, and presumably it would be best to get their stats and skills settled first, and then adjust the henchmen to fit... or Larian just hasn't got to that yet.
The way I see it is that the henchmen are just like the heroes. I play the game as 4 man party, which is for me the most enjoyable way to play and can involve much more strategy if they increase the difficulty. It would be stupid to make the henchmen weaker then the heroes.
Well, so far, I find it stupid to have some heroes builds weaker than NPC's.
Or maybe I am looking for simple followers, basic warriors, healers, cats, dogs, whatever, that would almost be like cannon fodder, but would have one or two special uses...

The Companions may have some powerful spells to start with, but they have the same number of Primary Attributes as the players have at that level, and a LOT fewer Ability Points (A level 3 PC would have 5 + 2*3 = 11 ability points, Madora has 5, Jahan has 3).
The Kickstarter mentioned that there would indeed be Henchmen who would be simpler, with a wide variety of builds and would be pretty disposable and you could just buy new ones if your old one got killed.
