I just took on a Source Abomination and it's Summoned Crabs give no XP.
So yeah, it's a bug.
It's hard to say which way they intended this to go. During the alpha when the first fight you encountered was the crabs, the big crab could summon up to two little crabs (in addition to three little crabs already present) and they gave XP as well.
