To me, special arrows is like casting spells with no cooldown, but ammo instead. It has a hard-combat-solving potential.
Yes, but don't forget that scrolls work the same way. Now, with the other classes it seems like they generally have a good range of skills to choose from. And, on top of that, they can use scrolls if they desire.
However, for those investing in Way of the Ranger it feels like the same number of skill options aren't really there, perhaps because the designers felt the arrowheads would fill in the gaps. That makes them seem less voluntary - but not because you need them to win a fight, more like you need them to make the gameplay more interesting.
Edit: I had to check to make sure I wasn't imagining this.
Way of the Ranger books are:1 - Ranged Power Stance
2 - Infect
3 - Multishot
4 - Arrow Spray
5 - Mute
6 - Scorched Earth
7 - Charm
8 - Survivor's Karma
Way of the Warrior books are:1 - Melee Power Stance
2 - Cure Wounds
3 - Phoenix Dive
4 - Flurry
5 - Nullify Resistances
6 - Whirlwind
7 - Inspire
8 - Rush
9 - Draw Blood
10 - Crippling Blow
11 - Helping Hand
12 - Stun
13 - Fear
14 - Rage
15 - Eroding Strike
..and elemental interaction now on top of all that.
That's almost twice as many options as the Ranger (sans arrowheadss) Am I missing any Ranger skills?
Witchcraft has:1 - Staff of Magus
2 - Resurrect
3 - Oath of Desecration
4 - Malediction
5 - Enfeebling Touch
6 - Blood Letting
7 - Blind
8 - Destroy Summon
9 - Summon Undead Warrior
10 - Absorb the Elements
11 - Unlock
Mage choices are too numerous to bother listing.
Obviously we can mix and match as this is a classless game, but for someone trying to be a pure Ranger it feels like the options are limited (unless you're willing to use the arrowheads).
edit 2: Hmm, I checked Rogue starting skills and "Walk in Shadows" and "Venomous Strike" are both survivor skills. Is it possible to get these in-game, or only at character creation when choosing a rogue?
