I guess what bothers me is that we really don't get a lot of information here.
This as been a recuring "issue" for some times now, that actually led me to my first agressive ragefull statement. But it seems to be Larian way. Black out, or some vaguely related tweets or statements on non official places, then a long full of info video or lets play teasing session. I wish there were more reports, every two or three days maybe, more concise. I guess that could be quite time consuming. However, no info builds the pressure.
Spring ends in june. However, this is not the issue. Larian proved it was sometimes a little to enthusiast in its annoucements.
At some point, from my little beta experience, they will have to cut through, make the game as bug free as possible (which can come a long way to "totally bug free"), and release as it is. And there, I think missing features (beside very obvious ones), are much less important than outrgeous balance issues, and game breaking bugs. Especially for players that have not been in the alpha or beta, because they might not be aware of what they are missing, but they might feel very frustrated by some other issues.
Moreover, DLC and patches can improve the game, even if a first impression can have a DRAMATIC impact on the game, and the studio.
Then there are mods. It can make a total difference. Look at mount and Blade warband. Basic game. Not that nice. Old. Not intuitive. Still very very very very much alive, with hundreds of forumers on its official forum every days, greatly because of the Amazing mods (and multiplayer). DOS might have both, sometimes.
Total black out here. We have been teased the first kickstarter day with an editor that reminded old modders like me of the Greatness of NWN and NWN2 Toolset. Then another video about some more apparent greatness. Then nothing. The modders community is the one that could literally call Larian a bitch, for teasing, and then, nothing to touch so far.
Some studios released the editor BEFORE the game, during the Beta. Not only could it help the studio catch some stuff, because there are some incredibly talented programmers around here (which I am absolutely not, btw), that could point out some issues or bugs, but it could also allow crazy modders to release basic mods at launch (this I did actually, for NWN2), and increase the interest for the game.
Some people, like me, might not even go past cyseal, and dive into the editor. Game would only be a technology demonstrator. Some people might buy the game ONLY for some mods and the Editor. I almost am one of them.
Editor would need a beta too.
But ok, Larian made its point clear, Bugs first, editor next.
So, we will wait some more. Until we grow really tired, and move along.
Something else, just to add to the nervosity. Non backers/early access fans are waiting for the game to be finished. Deliver what it says it would. They might be much less indulgent than the Fanboys here.
Something else: Sometimes, it feels like "old school" means "stone age", like everythings were great. 20 years old were incredibly Lucky to be alive at that time...
