I did some extensive testing with crafting and here is some things I found that will hopefully help others that want to test the crafting system out:

1.) All item combinations are either done by dragging the items on top of each other in the inventory screen or with interacting with static items like the forge. There is now messages if your crafting isn't high enough to perform the combination you are trying. Also sometimes things will stack like Iron Bars, which you will have to separate if you want to make a large iron bar.

2.) The Cooking Pot:
This can be placed in most campfires but works best in open campfires like the one near the north west gate between the abandon house / morticians house. Now there is two ways to do this:
a.) Drag the cooking pot on top of the fire until the fire turns yellow, this allows you to drop the cooking pot in the fire and the crafting screen comes up. When it finishes it creates a mobile kitchen, however it doesn't appear in your inventory the game puts a static mobile chicken on the ground that you can use to cook food. This looks like a fire with a pot hanging over it held up by a stick. To cook food in it just drag the food from your inventory onto the mobile kitchen and it will cook the food
b.) Drop the cooking pot close to the forge or campfire and the crafting screen will come up, however this time it will re-appear in your inventory as a ? labeled as mobile kitchen. I believe this is a glitch and will eventually be patched out, however as it currently stands it gives you the ability to have a mobile kitchen in your inventory instead of on the ground as a static item.

3.) The Forge:
First off this can be found behind the abandon house and is quiet large. The forge can be used by dragging items into the forge. This works the same was as the mobile kitchen as the forge will turn yellow when the item is in the right place. An example of this would be dropping an Iron Bar into the forge to create a weapon. The forge can be used to make weapons / armor out of iron/steel, or you can melt down weapons/armor you don't want and get a Iron bar, Large Iron Bar, Steel Bar, or Large Steel Bar from the item you just melted down. Also sometimes when you create an item from the forge it will not go into your inventory but plop down on the floor. So if you don't see it in your inventory press ALT and you should see it on the ground.

4.) The Wetstone
This is another item that I have found as a static item by the forge and as an item I could pickup in my inventory. From what I can tell this is still currently bugged as I can't use either on a weapon.

Crafting in a whole:
If you keep on top of crafting as your characters level up and proceed through the game you will be able to create items slightly better, sometimes marginally better then what you can find unless its a really good Green/Blue item. Also I'm not sure if its just a roll % or something but I wasn't able to craft any magical weapons(Green/Blue)

What I found the bigger advantage was creating magical rings / amulets for your characters to get + to str, spd, refelex's, ect as I never really found many of these items in the world. The other really big advantage I found for it was making healing positions / food which heals for a decent amount as well. This saved some money on healing until you healer can step in and do the job, or you get in a pinch where your heals are on cool down.

Over all I like the idea of the exploratory crafting system and reading the books for clues / recipes on how to make things, however once you make an item it would be nice if there was a master crafting list of items you have "figured" out that you could click craft on and it would use the items from your inventory to create another.

Also I was unable to use the mobile kitchen to improve my leather armor so I don't know if I'm doing this wrong or if its been patched out?

Anyhow hope this helps some people. If anyone could get the wetstone working I would be interested to know how.
