Greetings folks. I've been playing DD on and off for a couple of years now although I've never gotten past the mid teens with any of my characters. That's more down to a lack of time than a lack of interest. I plan on making atleast one run through this time around. Anyway, I have a question that's probably been asked before.

I've been wondering about armour rating. Searched, found this post and a couple of other posts but I didn't quite get an answer.

Could someone let me know if my understanding (pl. see below) is correct?
Let's say I have two pairs of boots, one with 50 armour and the other with 150. Let's say all other bonuses are the same. Can I assume that for 5% of all the hits my char takes (or a bit less maybe as the other armor pieces will chip in some of those times), the second pair will absorb 100 more points than the first?

I have the latest Steam version if that makes any difference.

I don't know exactly how the damage calculations are done, but it is not a straight weapon damage minus armour rating equals damage taken. I'd have to let the same opponent hit me with different class armour to get a better idea of how it works; just playing through the game the opponents gradually get stronger as you are upgrading different pieces of armour, so I certainly noticed a difference a few times, but a direct correlation between increases in armour and decreases in damage (at least partly because I rarely paid attention to the individual damage numbers, unless I was specifically checking something).

Thanks for the quick reply, Raze. The bit about a lack of direct damage-armor correlation makes sense and also makes me feel a bit better smile

I see lots of recommendations for the vampire boots (not that I've gotten that far) but very few for the shoes of the scorpion. Got one with 5 charm slots, +1 to 2 skills, and a couple of other bonuses. Reloaded, got another with 5 charm slots, lots more armor and a rash of other bonuses. Not too shabby for an early level item!

I pretty much ignored the armour rating for boots and belts, and went for the best bonuses. Gloves also have a low chance to be hit, but I don't recall a lot of upgrade choices with lower armour but better bonuses.
