Try uninstalling the game, rebooting and re-installing it (somewhere other than the Program Files folder path), and see if it will start without installing the patch. It shouldn't matter if you install the patch if it was already updated (though if it was the patch should have said so), but if you tried everything applicable in the topics above, re-installing is worth a shot, and it would eliminate the patch as a potential problem or source of conflict.
