Same here - a hatch didn't appear in the corner behind the door. The same message and the switch is not active anymore. I actually saw the switch after I did everything else, dunno if this matters.
Not the corner behind the door.... It's the upper left corner of the same room in which the switch can be found. Some barrels and a hay bail are lying on top of the trap door. You have to mouse over them to find the door...
If you still can't see it maybe your reception is too low? I had that issue with other "secrets" that should be seen either way in the game...
