I also play on a 28" 1080p screen, but this is not a big problem for me: Even on the big screen, the graphics are great as long as i don't use maximum zoom in - which is only useful if i want to check out a new piece of equipment, otherwise i want to see my surroundings.
I also prefer this side of the trade-off: More visible customization via equipment is better than one or two very high resolution character models with limited choices. Also, the game doesn't go for the realistic look, it has a slightly cartoonish art style, so some detail reductions don't seem as problematic as, lets say, in a hyperrealistic racing game with perfect cars and low-res license plates.

UI would benefit from a high-res option however.
