Hey. This is a direct quote from the Steam forum, but I'm seeing that attitude here, too.

The specific context was about making Raistlin and Lone Wolf incompatible.

If someone talks about how they prefer to play the game, and that isn't something you'd enjoy, or even do?

That doesn't make them wrong. That makes you different from each other.

What is fun for you is not a matter of cold hard fact about which you can be wrong. It's a subjective opinion.

If you find yourself telling someone else that they're wrong about what they like - because they aren't you? If you don't mean to be a jerk, you've failed. Back up and rethink what you're saying.

If you *do* mean to be a jerk, well then: good job. Jerk.

That's all.

I've been told that before, oddly enough.

Well, there is certain lack of social graces on these boards, but i wouldn't take it too serious. Its unfortunate that a difference in preference and opinion often results in riddicule and namecalling, but thats the internet for you... smile

Yeah, I keep hoping that if I say it enough times.

"Tide: stop!" I know.

At least there's usually some constructive and insightful discussion in each forum thread - until two posters inevitably start spamming each other with pointless bickering and attempts to get the "last word," or someone simply shows up with a huge nerdrage chip on their shoulder. So there's not quite as much garbage here as in the Internetz at large, and the trash that does pop up is relatively easy to ignore.

sadly welcome to the internet~ and no I am not trying to troll.. am being honest. Human nature tells them "I cannot see them, they do not matter." "I never have to deal with them in the real world so who cares" So they find it okay to mistreat others on the internet.

All you can do is smile and nod.

Thing is.. there's, what.. two dozen (if that) active posters on the alpha/beta forums? One would hope that would equate to a tight knit community, but people have different opinions about how things should work and clashes happen. One minute you're arguing against someone and the next you're arguing for the same thing - it's only made more visible because there are so few of us being active/semi-active.

I would tell a story here and it would be quite relevant but I doubt folks would relate to it these days but the summary is that the internet was a gentler place in the late 1990's. Honestly the Larian boards (and even the steam D:OS forum) is relatively tame to some of the others. Oh well. You need a tough stomach and a lot of self control to do an early release.

Trust the folks on steam aren't tame at all when I was comparing the game play with wasteland 2 and divinity original sin and I got trolled on and they accused me of being a pirate when my friend who had added those games in the family sharing...

It got me so mad that I had to delete that message... =/

I generally try to avoid the Steam forums.
Even for the game I "support" (as in made the prime 1 mod for and thus somewhat am burdened by helping people, even if they often make it difficult for me to want to) it's pretty annoying.

This place is far better IMO.
Being OP can be fun, but there needs to be some semblance of balance to a game (but dont go overboard). It's a slippery slope to walk...
