So either I'm blind, but I struck me as odd that for a game that is supposed to be classless there is no custom character creation option that lets you make a character from scratch. As far as I see it there are only presets atm.

Is this something Larian plans on implementing or do I need to manually remove all skills, talents & attributes before I can start? Again, could be I'm missing something obvious but that's the risk in playing a game where there is practically no hand holding? Not that i'm complaining mind you smile

at the moment it is preset classes only, sadly. I hope the options to build a customize character comes about.

Start with a preset close to what you want, and modify from there. You can not change individual starting skills yet, or equipment.

The classless option is currently implemented this way:
* Choose a class
* edit the class to allocate attributes, abilities and traits
* Starting skills and equipment can not be changed at creation
* but you will reach town after 5-10minutes game time -> buy any skillbook you like (and can afford)
* starting equipment is worthless, anyway

Yeah changing starting equipment would be pretty much pointless because most of the basic junk you pick up immediately after creation is better than it. And you get sufficient loot to afford a skillbook or two just from the journey to Cysael Harbour.

Heh. People keep using the term "pointless" on these forums in a way that makes me wonder if the definition changed lately. think

Finding better weapons prior to reaching Cyseal is RNG luck and not a guarantee, and there are four potential fights between the starting point and Cyseal. *Some* weapons are guaranteed by the last battle outside the city gates, but not all of them.

If I want to create a "Knight" character with a sword and shield from the start (instead of a two-handed sword), there is currently only one way to go about that (and it requires skills to be selectable, as promised weeks ago) : Choose the Warrior preset, change his stats to be more in line with a Knight, change his abilities to be more in line with a Knight, change his talents to be more in line with a Knight, and change his hotbar skills to be more in line with a Knight.

OR.. they could just let us pick a Knight preset and change his weapons to be a sword and shield. Much more streamlined, newbie friendly, and unnecessarily convoluted. Hardly pointless to me.

I mean, we don't *need* to be able to choose new hotbar skills.. we can always just make do with the ones we get through presets and then use the gold we make to buy new skills upon reaching the city, but being able to customize our character with the skills we prefer from the start is, well.. preferable.

I agree, but Grodit (the OP) seems to be a new player, so i assumed he wanted to know how he can create a custom character in the current build. Just wanted to point out to him that the two missing options (starting skills, starting equipment) don't last for long, so them being preset is not as bad as it might seem at first. That being said, the more customization the better.
