Right now I am doing some save scumming, but for spellbooks, because two chests in the burial mounds treasure chamber always spawn one. And the only reason why I'm doing this is because the vendors spell selection has been changed/broken in the last patch and they don't sell what I want. I am not enjoying savescumming for books, but I'm getting tired of fighting with a hand behind my back because the vendor RNG doesn't like me.
The vendors aside (we're assuming they're broken rather than now working as intended), what's the difference between what you're doing to get the spellbook you want (save-scumming), and setting up the game so that it presents you with a list of all the possible spellbooks you can get from its loot table with instructions to "pick one"?
Because, essentially, there is no difference other than that one of those routes is more annoying to you. While it may be more annoying and time consuming to save-scum, it's certainly not more challenging.. you will eventually get the book you want if you reload the game enough times.
I hope we can all agree we don't want the game to allow us to hand-pick our loot from a loot table listing. I hope we can all agree that would feel pretty broken. And yet, you're pretending that you're currently not doing exactly that.. just because the process of reloading a saved game umpteen times is more annoying.
No, it's not hurting anyone for you to sit there and re-roll spellbooks until the end of time. Just like it didn't hurt anyone for you to combine the Raistlin and Lonewolf talents. But when something is creating a result that you didn't intend or don't want for your game.. you fix it. It's as simple as that.
Now, if the Larian developers actually want save-scumming to be a part of their game.. if they're happy with the idea of players being able to use save-scumming to get specific loot instead of a randomized reward.. then that's their call. I wouldn't agree with it, but it's their baby/game/vision and they're the ones that need to be proud of the product they released.
In the meantime, I post in this thread to bring the topic (and opinions) to their attention. Maybe their minds are made up, maybe it isn't.. we won't know for sure until launch (or unless they chime in) and as this is still beta it's the time for these discussions to happen. So, I also ask
"what's the big deal?", only in terms of this discussion. I say that because some of the folks on this forum get really agitated when everyone isn't whistling the same tune as them (not you, but just look at some of the responses in this thread).
