I do understand that multiplayer is the exact same as singleplayer if you don't have a friend that wants to join you, and it doesn't really convey that point.

To me the buttons meant:

Do I want to play with a friend? Multiplayer.

Do I want to play alone and not be bothered? Singleplayer.

The funny thing is the one real thing the "New Game > Singleplayer/Multiplayer" buttons currently do (and even then only in a roundabout way, the actual change is due to the toggling of the "Option > Multiplayer" seting) is that it locks you out of the option of inviting a player into your game during the character creation segment.

And I'm not sure why anyone would want to actually do that. Why would anyone want to lock themselves out of having the *option* of inviting someone during character creation? I can understand not wanting to invite someone, but not wanting to have the "option" of inviting someone? Pressing "Singleplayer" right now is essentially saying "please remove my freedom of choice temporarily, in case I accidently get a wild hair up my bum and insist on bringing a friend into character creation for her fashion advice before continuing on to play solo..". It's the "protect me from myself" button. smile I just.. I don't know, what's the point.

(For those that don't understand what I'm talking about, when you select "New Game > Multiplayer" you can shift-tab to bring up your Steam interface, click on someone on your friends list and select "invite to game". When you choose "New Game > Singleplayer", the option to "invite to game" isn't listed in the Steam friend interface. You can change that at almost any point.. just not during character creation.)

Anyway, that's why I tend to press "New Game > Multiplayer", even when I know I'm going to play singleplayer.. because, you never know, I might suddenly change my mind, or a gaming buddy pops on while I'm in the middle of making my character, etc. At least I have the option of changing my mind.

That settles it, the buttons just need to be renamed. Instead of "New Game > Singleplayer / Multiplayer" , call it "Free Will > Disabled / Enabled". wink
