Yet I seem to have my characters poisoned or frozen frequently. Hell I even have poison cloud / fire arrow explosions. My problem is with the frequency of powerfully damaging items not the actual tactics of winning. I can win but it results in most of my Hpots being used and occasionally a revive scroll. I change tactics accordingly but there is only so much you can do in the beginning game.
