So I see no net benefit in removing a button.

I don't see confusion when there is only one button "New Game" because there is no other option for them to be confused about. Then when in the Character Creator they see a "Multiplayer Settings" button and ah ha moment happens.

If I were grading this issue, it would be a low "nice to have" one. With time running short I wonder how much room is open for nice to haves.

With Global Chat though we will see a lot of redundant early game questions, forever. If there is a real payoff, it would be monitoring Global Chat after release and whatever becomes common questions, perhaps a redesign or clarification in game is needed.

Yeah, if we could make changes to the game with a snap to our, it would be nice to have the redundant "singleplayer/multiplayer" buttons tucked behind "New Game" removed, and the multiplayer "gem" and chat added to the character creation screen.

Honestly, "singleplayer" doesn't even need to be an option. The "Invitation Only" option *is* singleplayer until you choose to make it otherwise, while also providing the host with the option of bringing in someone during character creation if the host wishes to. I'm not sure what the point is of having two options that do the same thing, save for one of them offering less options. Even if you never plan on playing the game multiplayer, "invite only" still offers you everything you need for a singleplayer experience.

I like that the game offers multiple ways to resolve a task, I'm just not convinced that gameplay philosophy should apply to the menu. smile

I am being dead serious here.. you do understand that you want to remove a button...just to add a button to character creation screen correct? a small gem which some players might over look..A "gem" which does the same thing as multiplayer button~ only in a simple easy to understand manner. Two buttons are standard in games for quite some time now.. again marketing, easier to access games sell more. ^_^

*shrugs* people must be bored trying to over complicate simple things..If this was changed... I can see the next topic "Gem is to big/small" or "Gem is redundant with the options menu"

just to be clear here is the meaning of redundant the word I keep seeing being used.
The Multiplayer button does not fit in there~ as it has a use and works as intended

I'm being dead serious here.. either counting isn't your strongest skill, or you're having that reading comprehension problem again.

This is a low level issue for me, but I would say it does fit there since it is the earliest point a MP can join. If they could join on the main menu then I would have that feature there. That is just from my design school, anothers may vary.

Just as I expected Gyson~ another shot the intelligence. Do tell me how that "innocent" role is working out for you~ and wanting the mods to do their job~ *finger twirl*

Anyway what you want is the same thing the current system does..only you want to over complicate it and add in a "Gem" which is still a button they click on the creation screen.. Sounds like the one with true intelligence issues is you~ what you want them to do is just going to make character creation messy looking with a "gem" slapped in there. The gem would have to be pretty good sized so all players know it is there. And I swear if you post something about people being stupid and not noticing a small gem...that just shows how ignorant and narrow sighted you truly are.

Ellary, I'm stunned you would say that. I merely.. how did you put it earlier? "..as I said before, if you felt insulted *shrugs* I posted what I felt on the subject."

Yeah, that happens sometimes unfortunately. What was your question about multiplayer, mrbaca?

I just picked up D:OS for myself and a friend. I was mainly looking to see an overall picture of how multiplayer worked. Number of players support, savegames, shared xp, etc. We played our first night last night and both enjoyed it. However, I will agree with you that the singleplayer/multiplayer redundancy is a bit odd. A singleplayer game should be exactly that...singleplayer.

Anyhow, we had a good time figuring out all the new character creation options and dialog result bonuses. Slow going for the first few hours, likely because both of us are very anal RPG players. We probably spent almost 2 hours just in character creation initially. I don't know exactly what time we started actually playing, but looking at our first save it was around 830pm in the training dungeon and we quit playing at 3am. So I'd say we both enjoyed it. I think all my questions are pretty well answered now through playing and some other articles I've read, but thanks for the reply. I think I'll start a singleplayer game now that I have the hang of it and see how long it takes me to get to the same spot we're currently in.

Thanks again.

Sounds like you have it figured out. smile

In case you haven't tested it out, the host can send the other player their save game files (located in Documents/Larian Studios/Divinity Original Sin/Player Profiles/PROFILE NAME/Savegames ), and then the 2nd player can load it up and do things solo without messing up the host's save. Like if you want to test out crafting or look over your character's current stats when the host isn't around.
