Taste differs. I have every single RPG by Larian simply because CRPG players who are into story-focused ones around me recommend them. However, when I began to play them, I ended up bored every time and have never been successful in going too far from the starting areas. The reason is simple-they are all ARPGs. I read Swen's blog since I like the devs who try to communicate with their fans and found that he has been actually into TB games, which brought me into investing on this crowd-funding campaign.
So, I guess you are on the other side. I bought and played previous CRPGs by Larian only to find the core gameplays are not my cup of tea-even not enough to make myself keep playing them for other factors, which I rather liked. Of course, I've never complained this to Larian since it's just the matter of taste. I don't share your taste but I think I understand. Nice to see this thread remain civil, considering this kind of topic tends to end up flame wars.
Side note: There is a CRPG called Arcanum, where you can select from real time and turn based combat but it seems to have been hard for the devs to balance the combat, accompanied with the skill-based system. Although it is not the sole reason, it remains as one of Troika's "under-rated" games, means, it has its own charms but not without flaws.
