Does anyone know if Divinity: Original Sin would be suitable for persistent worlds a la Neverwinter Nights style? It would be cool, there hasn't been a game suitable for persistent worlds since Neverwinter Nights 2.

I did a quick search and it appears multiplayer is capped at 6 players, but that was from some old posts so I'm not sure if that has changed or it has been announced that the cap would increase. I'm sort of bummed that it's capped at 6, but I'm hoping that since it's a Kickstarter game that's still in development that the cap is only an arbitrary cap and not a fundamental limit of the engine. smile

More specifically, I'd like to know if the developers intends to have:
- dedicated servers
- custom assets (like user-made models and textures)
- a multiplayer cap above 6 players

Right now, in the main official campaign, you are limited to 2 people. With modding, there will be the capability for 4. 6 is right out.

Don't expect the cap to rise, because then you'll spend all your time disappointed it does not, if you're only looking for an MMO you'd be better off waiting at least a year, because there is always the chance things will change after a year.

But don't expect the NWN ability for persistent worlds, unlimited player caps and such for a while because the game is designed more like Baldur's Gate with a set number of people in the story than It is for unlimited hero sizes.

Custom Assets - I believe this is very much possible, by importing assets into the editor.

As far as dedicated servers and playing NWN2 style. Would be cool, but I really doubt the game is set up for that kind of thing. Maybe it is something they can integrate down the road, perhaps for other games, since they intend to reuse the engine. Might not be that difficult to make the editor live or at least add some DM abilities.

I don't think that the base game is suited for that sort of thing. Nothing respawns, so at the very least you'd need mods for that. The engine limitation may be a hard limit - Larian hasn't given any indication that they were interested in making an 8-player plus game.

Larian did mention the engine itself supports more players (didn't specify), but that was not exposed in the UI for the dialogue editor, etc.

oh if Larian somehow did manage to make this possible with mods...I would be over the moon over joyed! I used to play on NWN2 worlds for quite some time til they all vanished o.o
