basically if you didn't grow up playing D&D you are going to have a hard time. But any pen and paper gamer loves this game for all those same reasons. the joy of succeeding when you make a correct decision, or figure something out on your own increases tenfold. the constant fear of being murdered by everything around you always makes a game fun.
