Funny, I always set myself between the sergeant and the door and making sure to be in stealth and not seen by anyone, cast unlock on the door and went in.
In beta I did the same I think. But when I tried this in release casting the scroll popped sneak and/or walk in shadows, thus getting me caught. I then found the alternate ay in the spoiler above.
