the journal says that we need help to be able to free her...
but how to???

Kill Boreas, get his staff and use it on the Elemental Forge - this will release fire elemental who will give you a special item to summon him to melt the ice.

So I've released them, but I've recieved no special item. The fire guy just tells me that three earth elementals broke out, and no one knows how.

Hm, did you tell him about the White Witch? Did he offered you his help?

This dialogue option should be visible if you've clicked on the ice prison of the White Witch at least once.
