Even with the recent changes on the loops of voices, it is still difficult to follow dialogs on co-op for multiple reasons:

+Even when you don't hear the voice looping, there are still their flashing texts, which makes it harder to follow your partner's flashing text.

EDITED:
+It still loops quite a bit. I /think/ it could be a good idea, later on, to enable a sliding bar for how often the loops occurs. People are still going berserk at people repating their lines every fives seconds and killing the offender.

+The UI for following dialogs of your partners is really awkwwars. Right now you can aー)follow the dialog logs to the bottom right (and hope people around aren't having dialog looping, as it will fill it up and make it hard or impossible to read, bー) follow the flashing dialog above theirs heads, which is fast and awkward, especially for non-native speakers, and it also means you need to be together all the time, cー) you check the journal, which mean you need to stop playing for five minutes every time there is a dialog.

I would strongly suggest that something new be implemented for co-op so that we are able to easily follow what's going on with our partner without stopping our own game. MAybe have the top 1/5th of the screen filled with the equivalent of the journal dialog entry whenever our partner is in dialog? i don't know.

I just know i regularly see people giving up on co-op because of it.

There will be improvements to the co-op dialogue in an upcoming patch. Until then, if you open the log and switch to the Dialogue tab, it should be easier to follow than the log or overhead text.

Is there a possibility to join the general dialogs of the other player?

Actually I can only see the texts on the head of the chars, but it changes very quickly, I suppose it is depending on the speed the other player's reading?
Now I only enter in dialog mode if a decisoin has to be made.

However I suppose I can check in the log if the dialog is too quick, but it would be better to be able to join as a (passive) member of the dialog, (not) able to answer the questions, but see the same screen just like the other player.

Not yet, at least (Larian wasn't specific about what they were planning). For now you can see dialog in the combat log (though NPC comments are also listed there), or you can open the journal (L) and switch to the Dialogue section.

I dont know why they cant just make the co-op player have the option of viewing the chat that is going on in the actual chat popup window like the person actually DOING the chat.

I know some people dont want to have what they are doing suddenly interupted because their friend started a chat with an NPC, which is why you make it an OPTION in the settings...

OR... better yet...

One person starts a chat

Player 2 gets a pop up saying "Do you wish to join the chat between Player one and NPC Name?"

The popup wouldnt interupt what they were doing unless they click "yes" at which point, it zooms to the character doing the chat, and the co-op player is reading and watching as if its their own character, just unable to pick chat options until those special joint co-op conversations

Anything LESS than this functionality, is just awful and horribly cumbersum. I know my wife will never want to play co-op if she cant easily read whats going on or feel like she is part of the dialog (even if she cant choose whats being said). And Ive been in plenty of games where other players get pretty upset at how NPC dialog is so hard to follow and watch.

This is a pretty serious flaw of the game, considering one of its main hyped feartures is co-op play. You dont design a car that holds 4 people and only put 1 seat in it, and thats effectively whats happened in this game. Sure 3 other people can get in the car, but its not very fun to ride in, and its very uncomfortable if you try to manage it anyway.

This should be a TOP priority to improve/fix and will largely determine many players steam reviews, meta critic ratings, and decisions to buy any DLC or expansions/sequels. Dont let such a beautifully made game trip and fall just because of one bad step in its design decision.

I would change 2 things in the actual co-op dialog system:

1. if one is talking with an NPC, the other could click on the NPC as well to enter in the dialog as passive or maybe 3rd active participant.

2. if not entering the dialog it would be better to see the texts on the NPC till the talking player clicks and goes on. Now the text wanishes too fast.

I've seen that the NPC exits the dialog if the other character is stealing, that's really good!

So I found an interesting feature, that I dont know WHY the devs didnt make it work for watching the dialog of a chat.

If you click on the other players portrait, it will instantly warp you to viewing his character, as if you are playing that character.

All they need to do is keep the same functionality, only, if the player is in a dialog, it now shows you the dialog as well. That way its totally optional for the other player not doing the dialog.

PLEASE ADD THIS.

What i am currently thinking of is they also should add a feature (beyond just making your partner's dialog easier to read) where, whenever you have to make a choice in a quest/whatever-E.G, whether you want to kill the two legionnaire at the bridge at the very beginning of the game- you would have the option to 'call' the other main player, and he could chose to warp to you via the teleporter pyramids and participate in the dialog.
