Does backstab benefit at all from critical hit?

From critical chance - how the hell? It's 100% crit. From crit multiplier - yes

ahh I wish the tooltip would say something to that effect. It's just bumming me out that rogue needs to have perception to fill out the rogue play style (finding traps etc...) but hardly gets any benifit from it?

Well, in fairness, if you have a "pure" rogue, then it's mostly going to be a support character anyway. But that Perception gives you increased sense range, so your party is surprised less often and can better prepare for fights; it gives you more starting AP in a fight, so that if you've stealthed up near the enemy you can incapacitate or cripple at least one or maybe even two enemies in the first round; and it gives you better trap detection, like you said.

The value of having one (or more) enemies too busy drooling on their own feet to hit you with the pointy sticks can't really be overstated in most (non-gimmick) fights. That one spot with the sleeping goblins? Very tough fight for a party to take face-on. Very easy with half the goblins stunned, blinded, and knocked over.

Imo they should have tweaked the Speed and Perception benefit/stats a bit. The current system is punishing to Scoundrel characters, especially Hybrid Scoundrel like Shadowblade.

Honestly i forgo more Perception in favor of Speed(I use perception pots/spells/gear as buffs for exploring though). Seriously, having more AP recovery and a lot more movement helps a ton in making my rogue and shadowblade mobile to backstab and CC target after target. I feel Speed is a must especially for Scoundrel Class characters, it seems many just dump points into Dex and some into Perception which i feel is limiting the potential of that class.

As a Rogue, balancing Dexterity, Perception, Speed is manageable. But as a Shadowblade it is a nightmare, in addition to the 3 stats, you have Intelligence which is just crazy. Shadowblade a.k.a Hybrid Scoundrels have the most diluted/spread out stat point distribution among all builds and your higher tier spells/skill really suffer for that.
