You name any inspiration for D:OS, be it BG, NWN, Diablo, etc. I played and loved them.
If there's a target audience for Original Sin, i'm it. And i'm really, REALLY digging it. Or trying to.
It only took me half an hour of playing to shake my head in disbelieve over the current state of the GUI.
What is there, works. And works well. But there are features missing that are so blatantly obvious i cannot fathom why Larian gives me a hard time enjoying this otherwise incredible experience.
My biggest gripes:
- Inventory Sorting How come developers include not 1 but 2 sorting mechanics but forget the most important sorting choice? It's good that i can use the filters to weed things out but when i wanna make something as simple as cheese bread that type of sorting already fails because its ingredients are in different categories.
The dropdown sorting options for the main inventory are the right direction but they lack the only option that would bring some order to the chaos ... SORT BY TYPE ...please...
- Control Mapping We really need more control over game functions. ALL game functions. Let us rebind camera rotation and mouse functions for instance. And let us use CTRL/ALT/SHIFT as single keys. Right now they can only be remapped as key combinations even though ALT is used as a key by default.
- Hotbars You have the insight to give us 3 hotbars but then forget to map a key to it ... forcing us to click a 5-pixel button everytime we wanna change the hot-(hot as in QUICK access)-bar .. come'on ..
- Various character selection issues When i got the inventory open, and i click the avatar of another character in my party, i expect the inventory to change ... why would i have the inventory of character 1 open while i control the other ... it's simply confusing, either fade out avatars on open inventory so we see we're supposed to use the arrows. Or take the arrows out to begin with.
The character confusion list is much longer though. For instance when you open a shop, and then switch to another character, the tooltip comparisons for weapons and armor still refer to the character that initiated the conversation instead of the currently selected one.
I'm really trying to enjoy this game but it feels like an (completely unnessecary) obstacle course at times.

The hotbar limitations are such a nuisance. We need keybinding ability for swapping through them, plus we should be able to drag them to fill the bottom of our screen and get more total slots if we'd like, or even stack multiple rows to avoid needing separate pages of them. I have a bunch of pointless screen space sitting there where I should be able to put my abilities.
10 is absolutely not enough.
Also, letting us bind our slots as we please rather than 1-0 would be great.

I want more ways to sort items, too. By name, by type, by rarity, and by level. Ascending and descending order.
In fact, if the inventory window could be split off from the character window into a much bigger inventory window, that'd be awesome. I'd like to see more inventory slots at once than you're able to right now. Scrolling is a pain.
This should also allow you to open the inventories of at least two characters, so you can drag and drop stuff between them rather than use the dropdown menu, which gets tedious with a lot of loot.
Also, the item stacking limit needs to be raised for all stackable items. Again, scrolling is a pain and having the same items in different stacks clutter the inventory just adds to the problem.
Oh, and a tab for newly obtained items would be cool, too. Make newly obtained items glow or highlight, and when you mouse over them, mark them as "seen" basically, clear the "newly obtained" status, and remove the glow/highlight.

Agreed, some extra necessity sorting types would be wonderful, I've been trying to set it to 'type' of item for a while, I was sad to see that it wasn't possible, maybe in a quick update it can be added?

Hotbar improvements seem a good idea - having a 2-key shortcut system (e.g. 3 then 5 for the fifth button in the 3rd toolbar) might be worth investigating. My biggest request for now though is the ability to zoom out more - I'd like a similar exploration range to Divine Divinity (when run at 1920x1200 resolution) which is 1.5-2x what is currently permiited in D:OS. Or at least, make the zoom configurable/hackable. A more ambitious addition would be the option of a first/third person perspective (as offered in Neverwinter Nights). This would be better for exploration and would give Larian a chance to add some glorious skyboxes.

When i got the inventory open, and i click the avatar of another character in my party, i expect the inventory to change ... why would i have the inventory of character 1 open while i control the other ... You can actually have multiple inventory windows open at a time (try, for example, right-clicking the portrait of everyone in your party). Not sure what you want really fits with the flexible multi-window scheme they're using, but I agree it can be weird at times.
