I dont know why they cant just make the co-op player have the option of viewing the chat that is going on in the actual chat popup window like the person actually DOING the chat.
I know some people dont want to have what they are doing suddenly interupted because their friend started a chat with an NPC, which is why you make it an OPTION in the settings...
OR... better yet...
One person starts a chat
Player 2 gets a pop up saying "Do you wish to join the chat between Player one and NPC Name?"
The popup wouldnt interupt what they were doing unless they click "yes" at which point, it zooms to the character doing the chat, and the co-op player is reading and watching as if its their own character, just unable to pick chat options until those special joint co-op conversations
Anything LESS than this functionality, is just awful and horribly cumbersum. I know my wife will never want to play co-op if she cant easily read whats going on or feel like she is part of the dialog (even if she cant choose whats being said). And Ive been in plenty of games where other players get pretty upset at how NPC dialog is so hard to follow and watch.
This is a pretty serious flaw of the game, considering one of its main hyped feartures is co-op play. You dont design a car that holds 4 people and only put 1 seat in it, and thats effectively whats happened in this game. Sure 3 other people can get in the car, but its not very fun to ride in, and its very uncomfortable if you try to manage it anyway.
This should be a TOP priority to improve/fix and will largely determine many players steam reviews, meta critic ratings, and decisions to buy any DLC or expansions/sequels. Dont let such a beautifully made game trip and fall just because of one bad step in its design decision.
