Just woundering, were currently doing the eve quest

We are on step 9

And it says


We discovered that there are four possible suspects who might have taken Jake's body: Mayor cecil; captain aureus; the healer apprentice eve; and esmeralda.


When we try to talk to esmeralde (shes in jail now) we only can take 'il take my leave'


Need help.

You don't absolutely need Murphy to progress the quest, that is just one possible route.

You don't need to talk to Esmeralda to get to the next area in the game
