I just made it to the beach, talked to some people in the city (chose to save the love potion orc girl, couldn't water barrel the flaming boat, and chose to save the younger guy), but then was teleported to a weird place with an imp, then talked to a weaver of time, and I don't even know where I'm supposed to go. Is the game supposed to be like this?

Yes, it requires you to think and read dialogues and your diary and explore stuff on your own. There are no quest markes in this game...

You can leave the Shelter Plane of Time (your homestead) by clicking on the small pyramid symbo on the right side of the screen. That way you can travel to every portal you discovered from (almost) any position in the world. wink

Is there a recommended path to follow though? Unless it has a Skrim like system, where the enemies scale in strength as you level up, there still should be a correct way to play the game.

Just walk around doing stuff - if encounters seem too hard for you or they outlevel you, you can be pretty sure that there's somewhere you haven't explored yet that is easier.

Encounters all have fixed enemies with fixed levels, so there's nothing lost if you decide to give an area a pass in order to return at a later date.

I'm sure somebody with a lot of his time on his hands could write down a shortest-path guide telling people the easiest way to complete the game, but it is not needed to enjoy the game.

Just go out and explore everything, then choose what to do based on what you find.

If you want a simple piece of advice, it would be to do a lot of exploring in the town of Crysael, as there is a lot of experience you can pick up there from quests and exploration with no fights at all and then, when you feel you are ready to take on the world, go forth and find out what's out there.

EDIT: Hah, while I was writing, somebody with way too much time on his hands (hi!) posted a link to his guide. smile

When I said death before dishonour, I meant it alphabetically.

Yep, perfect timing on your part. wink

My post was obsolete before I even hit the button to submit it, but in my defence it was written concurrently with your own. laugh

EDIT: Oh, no, now we are in an edit war! I'll preemptively end this by saying, "well done, you win!" While I personally love exploring over hand holding guidance in CRPGs, given the original post your guide would seem to perform a valuable community service now that I've given it a glance.
