My main character has a "boost" which decreased my perception and added to my intelligence. Since he's a fighter, I really want to try and reverse this.

But I'm not sure what caused it to begin with. I'm not sure if it's food or something I clicked accidentally. Anyone know what has caused this?

It could have been caused by one of the rare books. There are a small assortment of books that, when read or used, will "swap" two attribute points. What you're describing here sounds like one of them (one I've actually seen before, too, but I can't remember the name of it). You may have found one of these books and then read it without paying much attention, which would trigger its effects. Since its an expendable item, the book would have then vanished, leaving no evidence other than the attribute changes. Unfortunately, short of reloading an earlier save from before it happened, there's not much you can do about it (at least until the Character Editors start rolling out).

Ah that's really sad to hear.

My main character does read all the books. But with so many that contain recipes I've gotten into the habit of just clicking them and selling them.

I guess it's my fault for not paying attention, but it would have been nice to get a confirmation popup when something changes your character.

What?! I've finished the game, and never found that kind of book laugh

I'm halfway into 'chapter 2' (Luculla forest) and so far I've gotten two of these 'Codex of Pestilential Thought' which gives Intelligence +1 and Perception -1. I haven't found books with other combinations, though.

They're rare books, so it's not inconceivable for someone to go through the whole game without finding one. They occasionally show up in mid- to high-level desks, and very rarely on bookshelves. I've seen two different ones while poking around, since I tend to leave no container unlooted and no crate unturned.

It's worth noting that I think both of these items were actually created by a fan as part of one of the Backer Tiers, and they may or may not be a reference to the Planescape: Torment series (Grimoire of Pestilential Thought, for example).

I got absurdly luck and got Codex in the vases in the End of Time area. At level 3. Hah. I do have stacked lucky charm items on the character though.

That's why I load one character with perception, another with vision, one with hearing and one with luck. They work together to find all sorts of neat stuff and warn me early of bad guys and traps.

I got 6 Codex during my playthrough, one of them from a Civilian in Cyseal.

Am at Hunter's Edge now, 7 codexes on my Wizard.

+7 intelligence, for a tradeoff of -6 perception (She has a base of 6. Waste of that 6th point, but didn't know the item during character creation).

Wonder how insanely high I can pump her intelligence.
