My buddy and I found this underground cellar in Cyseal that contains a puzzle with 4 plates you can press next to pillars. The writing near-by says Fire, Wind, Earth, Water and some stuff about meeting Double bla bla.
I don't want a solution at all and I don't want to read a walk-through about it either. No hints! I want just one single answer - is anything needed to complete that quest, like an item, or weapon, or some NPC, or some external force at all? A spell maybe? Or can it be actually solved by simply pressing those 4 plates in some specific order?
The best I could figure based on what was written was that one player needed to press Fire, while the other needed to press Water, and then do the same with Earth and Wind or vice versa because pressing one of the plates leaves players feeling good about it. That was probably the first plate player 1 had to press, following by player 2 pressing the opposite of that pillar. Anyway - no spoilers! I just want to know if it can be done simply by pressing those big plates.

If you read the hint a few times it'll probably click for you. You don't need an item. You need only to read closely.

As Pestilence says, you don't need any specific item, spell, NPC, or other external force. Regardless of your skills, spells, items, and party makeup it is doable.
As you don't want any hints as to what to do, I will answer your specific question about the big plates in the underground cellar you are in: "I just want to know if it can be done simply by pressing those big plates.". The correct answer is, "No, it cannot be done simply by pressing those big plates".
When I said death before dishonour, I meant it alphabetically.

Think about elemental interactions and what it means to "defeat" an element
Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

It's simply a puzzle to unlock a bonus room with loot, not related to a quest. As for hints... talk to rats!

How about this one: You can't solve the puzzle with your current information, so just keep exploring a bit further.

Wait, so I don't need any NPC or spell or any other item, etc., and YET I can't solve the puzzle by simply pressing the 4 plates in some specific order??? That doesn't make sense. You either need an external force or you don't. "Think about elemental interactions and what it means to 'defeat' an element" - OK, that would require some sort of spell, but it was also stated that you don't need a spell to solve the puzzle...
"How about this one: You can't solve the puzzle with your current information, so just keep exploring a bit further". OK, there is far too much contradictory advice here. You either solve the puzzle by pressing the 4 plates in a specific order without needing anything else OR you do need something like a spell to defeat some element, such as fire, which can be defeated with a rain spell, and YET you don't need a spell! I am more confused about this puzzle than before, BUT I'll just keep exploring because advice regarding this puzzle will probably get in the way of figuring out the actual solutions. Thank you for your input!

Go exploring more. It'll help you. There is one place, not far, you need to find to solve the riddle. When you find it, you'll know.

Well you can bruteforce it or ask for the solution, that goes without saying. It's just four switches. But you said you didn't want this.
Also, the elemental interactions belong to a different puzzle. Ignore that post.
