On the second map there was this giant ice golem thing that was guarding. While it was only an 11th level monster, I noted right away that all my weapons (bow and sword) were doing very little damage to it, like 6-15 points per attack. I also noted that my ice elemental that I summoned was healing it when it attacked, and my poor mage couldn't do any damage to it with his air spells.
So I beat on it for about thirty minutes. My mage kept my guys alive and I actually had to switch out my weapons mid battle because they were going to break. But when it was all over (and I SAVED!) I thought I would ask ... how the hell were you supposed to fight that thing? I know I must have missed something, maybe a special weapon or something that was supposed to weaken it? I did note that any fire weapons did a little more damage, but not a whole lot more.
So what was the trick with this guy?

Have you tried putting that thing on fire?

I used fire arrows on it, but they only did about 20 points of damage ... which barely scratches it.
I've got that wand ... but honestly don't know how it works. It says to just 'use' it, which I haven't tried to do since I have no idea what it does.
What does it do and how was I supposed to know to use it on that particular creature? Was there some dialog somewhere saying to use it?
Thanks.

That Wand of Shambling Mound is obtained by talking to/killing cultist with tamed Shambling Mound monster. If you win over some dialogue with that cultist, she can tell you how to craft it (combining branch with Tenebrium) and how it works (it gives you Rot when used without Tenebrium skill, but you can cure Rot easily with some Bloodstone). That Guardian is visually very similar to Shambling Mounds, that's how i figured out to use it on him.

Fire Elementals, fire spells and weapons with bonus fire damage worked for me. The fight still takes really long, but it's not like he can damage you a lot. If you have the money, I'd suggest hiring a mage or two from your Homestead to speed up the fight.

Still took a LONG time though. But now I know the trick with the wand. I don't remember the druid telling me about the wand, but that's probably because I lost a game of RPS.
