Go into the option menu and re-assign the hot keys for quick save/load; another person found that this made them more stable.
If the game crashes in the middle of saving, it will not have finished copying/creating all of the game data in the save folder. When trying to load, the game has a problem when it tries to access the missing data. Check the number of files in the save game folder and compare it to a working save.
