Nice, but you can achieve the same thing by SweetFX sharpening.
Not even close, actually. In the texture mod he isn't simply doing higher-res versions of the original textures, he's substituting new textures for the original ones and the differences are often stark. Yet, the changed textures are so well-done and tasteful that they don't stand out like sore thumbs but are nicely integrated into the game's standard graphics presentation. There are quite a lot of complete texture substitutions that are also higher-res at the time, etc.
I actually use the texture substitutions but don't use the Sweet-FX portion of the mod at all (in case you didn't know this was possible--just don't add anything to the game's standard "shipping" directory, but of course add the textures to the "Data" directory.) The textures make the difference for me--SweetFX adds little to nothing to the way I setup the game's renderer--I turn off DoF, and I use either the SMAA x1 or FXAA option (I keep oscillating between them) but have sort of settled on SMAA x1 as my preferred.
I'd like to see an SMAAx2/x4 option for the in-game engine settings, though, because I've discovered that external types of post processing/FSAA (as found in Radeon Pro or other such utilities) don't really work well or even at all with D:OS because of the way the Unity engine renders internally. I'd *really* like to see an in-game SMAAx2/x4 option for the game! Yea, it'll hit frame rates but I'm a single-player guy and am in it for the quality of the graphics as opposed to some numb-headed FPS comparisons, etc.
I've also noticed, parenthetically, that as of the 169 version of the game the texture-streaming option turned on no longer causes the slight hitching/stuttering I was getting pre-169 until I turned the setting OFF. Don't know if that's because the original implementation of texture streaming in the game has been fixed or whether it is because the option has simply been turned off/disabled permanently...;) Either way, I'm a happy camper!
