To get Esmerelda arrested, or to get her to spill about Evelyn, you need knife, book, and the Duke of Ferol's rancid poetry/threatening love letter from the locked chest at the murder scene. You get the chest key from her house, which makes the letter the same grade of circumstantial evidence as the knife and book.
