According to weapon descriptions:

Bows have a max range of 26.0m, and
Crossbows have a max range of 22.0m

but in the game the actual range is only around 18.5m for both.

I guess this is not down to sight range since I have tried placing a companion near the target to provide extra sight. I also tried with two archers of 7 and 12 perceptions.

So how to actually achieve max range? Or this is broken?

Is your sight a limiting factor?

Are you certain that there aren't elevation changes causing an obstruction? Terrain does obstruct firing lines.

Also, ranger skills generally have a shorter range than a basic attack, so if you're looking at the distance covered by something like Ricochet, its limit is specific to the skill.

Your bow wielder's sight is what matters here.

If I'm shooting at something and you are in my party, even if you can see it, I can't shoot at it unless I can see it myself.

perception does not affect sight range, only crit chance on shots for archers.

the only thing that affects sight range... is sight range.

your base is 18.5. you want to shoot further? find gear that boosts that, or....

eat a carrot.

no kidding.

carrots are hands down the best food for archers, period.

just make sure you have an extra point of strength over what you need to wear your armor before you eat a carrot in combat smile

Perception should really add to your sight range. It adds to the hearing range, so I'm confused as to why it adds nothing to sight.

Honestly Sight and Hearing both feel kind of like pointless stats.

sight gives you the ability to set up a field of damaging/disabling surfaces before enemies can see you, while you can see exactly where they are.

hearing gives you the ability to detect hidden enemies. I've seen it work several times now.

then there's the sight range for bows (not really applicable to magic, since its range is so limited already). max bow range is 26, normal sight range is 18.5. being able to shoot 7 squares further? actually has come in handy in several fights.

so, not pointless. just depends on your playstyle.

I mean pointless in the sense of "knowing that they are stats does not affect my gameplay at all". I am never going to choose +hearing or +sight over basically anything else. My experience with ranged combat has been that the accuracy penalties for long distance are so great that I would never WANT to shoot farther than 18m.

Basically what I mean is 'if they simply had both of those stats increase with Perception, that would be fine'. Or if they had them be static across all characters, that too would be fine.

Before even leaving Cyseal, a ranger with a reasonable amount of dexterity and perception can shoot at 18.5m with an 80% accuracy rate. Being able to shoot the remaining 7.5 meters can be pretty handy.
