It is more than likely something in your environment / settings causing the issue rather than a bug otherwise many other people would have reported the issue.

So You can either

A) Blame the issue on a "Bug"

or

B) take a methodical approach to troubleshooting.

First - does your system meet the minimum system requirements? Especially the video card.


Minimum

OS: Windows XP SP3/VISTA/7/8.1
Processor: Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.6 GHz or equivalent
Memory: 2GB (XP) / 4GB (Vista/7/8)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB or ATI 4850 or equivalent
Hard Drive: 20GB

Have you got the latest drivers for your Video and sound devices especially?

Have you tried the suggestion to re-intsall? You may wish to use the steam game file integrity check to make sure you have a good install.

The issue could be a corrupt save game or even a hardware / overheating issue etc etc.
