For me it is the deep turn based combat that is the star of this game. If it was real time this would just have yet any other shallow ARPG. Different games for different. I am just happy that DOS is turn based. There isn't a lot of those anymore.
*Cough* Real-time with pause like Baldur's Gate *cough*
Personally I like that best, but D:OS isn't that bad. Haven't noticed many of the issues mentioned here. Yes, the AI sometimes "hangs" and it takes some time for the game to progress then, but that's about 10seconds or so and it's rather rare. Don't notice any weirdness with post-spell pausings people mention too... hmmm...
