As serious as this issue is, the vast majority of people can play the game without major problems.

I am not trying to make excuses, but realistically it is impossible to release a completely bug free game, let alone one as complex as an RPG with a fair bit of freedom. There is no way to test the game on more than a small fraction of the possible range of hardware and software configurations, and even thousands of beta testers can not catch every issue that the number of people playing on release may encounter.

The game was also updated right up until release day, and after, which is good for gameplay features, but that does mean that some things were not as polished as they would be otherwise. Essentially, a fun game with bugs can always be patched; if you have a bug free game that isn't fun, it is hard to go back and fix broken gameplay mechanics after the fact.
