These two pictures says it all. The first one is from Divinity Original Sin and the Second one is from Dragon Age Origins...Either way I'm seriously starting to wonder and question if the items found in games, actually reflect what goes on on a developers real life.

YOU DECIDE!

The humor is weak in this one.

You have to take everything in context. The panty garment you found is "smelly" because there is an entire line of "smelly" clothing that is supposed to be collected to bring to a certain dog (that intends to sniff each garment and help the player figure out who the murderer is). Sure, it could have just as easily been a "smelly blouse", although that probably implies Esmerelda has a hygiene problem. The garment in question fits the impression of Esmerelda the game is trying very hard to pass to the player.

As for the "Dragon Piss" in Dragon's Age - it flat out says the name is likely figurative, a nickname that the inhabitants refer to it as. One might use the same label to describe some of the beers available in the real world.. rpg006

Yeah south park is expected to have shit like that in it, but in a serious RPG game ..That's just fucked up and disturbing.

Let me give people a quick Visual a visual:

Imagine Obi-Wan swiping a pair of Princess Leia's Smelly Panties with the force, or atreyu Drinking a bottle of Dragon Piss given to him by the Luck Dragon.

Need I say more!

Serious rpg game? All Divinity games have weird humour in them. I doubt Larian employees take themselves too seriously. Heck, just look at their logo.

It's just dirty underwear, and like Gyson said, there's a valid reason this item exists. It needs to be smelled by a dog. If it was a freshly washed pair of panties, then it'd be quite useless.

About the dragon piss, it's not uncommon for specific low quality brands of beer to be called piss. It has nothing to do with urine.

I get the feeling you take life way too seriously. Lighten up! celebrate

Did you decide Divinity: Original Sin was a "serious" video game before or after you saw the characters sneaking around as moving bushes?

The smelly panties fit the game just fine. Your example has no context, where as the item in question makes sense when taken in context.

Just wait til you find Bellegar and talk to him. Smelly panties ain't got nothing on in-game advertising. THAT genuinely pissed me off.

I thought it was fairly amusing. It's not like the game takes itself seriously, most of the time.

You know, I completely forgot about that. Perhaps I forcibly blocked it. That one was without class.

Don't forget the barrels, and rocks too!

But assuming someone found that context is asinine. Reading through the replies in this topic is proving that the context required in order for "Smelly Panties" to make sense is just way too obscure and requires a very precise set up in order to find that out. So without that context to go by you draw the only other conclusion that can be drawn with that.

Which shows either this girl doesn't like to bathe, or someone she knows is into that sort of thing.

How Smelly Panties got involved with a murder is beyond me

I got to the bottom of the murder without Smelly panties" I just took a screenshot because it was funny and I know people who will also find it funny.

If I show that screenshot to anyone they will think that's nasty.

CSI's will tag dirty panties at a crime scene. You are working on a crime... do the math.

It sounds like you're saying

Which is kind of a given...

They smell like sex.

Murphy pretty much confirms that.
It's not that she has bad hygiene... she's a slut.

Not much context needed there, you made it something different entirely by yourself... smirk

Sorry but everyone is saying that from and after the fact KNOWLEDGE...Except the problem with what everyone is saying is that somehow some way without any journal entries or characters making comments about anything that tied to the murder when you pick it up LIKE THEY DO WITH ANYTHING ELSE INVOLVED (I.E. the bloody knife and the book titled the perfect murder There was never any comment or journal update or anything when the panties were picked up..and that makes them exactly like any other normal item I've picked up in the game like mushrooms or scrolls or whatever.

If something is tied to a crime scene then label it as such they did with every other item and let you know regardless.

I rest on your face...I mean I rest my case.

Live with it.

But a little bit more seroiously, use thine head to put two and two together, don't ask the game to tell you if you're doing it right. Because that not that kind of game Larian wanted to make or made. What comments are in the game I find to have more of a humorous rather than informative effect.

Not everything related to a quest will update your questlog... sometimes you need to do *gasp* thinking for yourself.
It's a good idea to get used to that now rather than expect heavy handholding that will never come...

There are multiple ways to advance the murder investigation. One of the routes is for players who have the "Pet Pal" talent (which allows them to talk to animals). Jake (the murder victim) has a dog, and the dog knows what his master smells like. Because of this, you can bring the dog articles of clothing from the various suspects and he'll tell you which garment "smells like Jake" (in other words, which one belongs to someone who recently handled/stole Jake's body).

In the case of the smelly panties, the dog makes a point of noting that the garment smells like every man in Cyseal except for Jake. This is important, because while it makes it crystal clear why the town has a certain opinion about Esmerelda, she clearly did not steal Jake's body.

There are, of course, other ways to get this information - this just happens to be one route available for people with the Pet Pal talent. You don't even need the panties to clear Esmerelda's name through the dog.. there's another "smelly" item you can pickpocket from her, but that obviously requires the pickpocket skill. The panties just happen to be the easier-to-obtain garment (assuming you're willing to snoop around in Esmerelda's bedroom).
