There is still a way to get back there. Get your character with Death Knight Bane to at least 120% Fire resistance (with the Burning status giving -20% Fire, this will still be 100%). Walk through the lava. I think the Death Knights will still be there, since they're invulnerable. Make them less invulnerable; the lava should do the rest for you. Pretty anticlimactic as far as battles go, but hey, if that's what you wanna do.
The Tornado spell also removes lava, but IIRC it re-floods shortly after removing it, which would make Fire resistance your preferred method. You could test this out though; I might be wrong.
