I'm with you Ryko. But i did it without reading for tips on playing the game smile. Starting of the game, you have limited gold and you need to save for it to buy the 'essential' skillbooks. Also be sure you are 4 party members (not 2). And there's alot of stuff that you can do to gain XP without combat.
