I bought the game a few days ago and really want to play it but,

The game is causing my computer to crash to a black screen every time I play. I can't get past the first orc fight without my computer shutting off and the sound looping.

I have:
updated all my drivers
Uninstalled and reinstalled the game
Checked the integrity of the game cache
Run a memory diagnostic on my RAM

none of which solved the problem or helped me diagnose the problem

I don't know what else I can try, any help would be most welcome

You characters are probably levelling up at that point, which a few people have had problems with if multiple party members level at the same time, or (more rarely) if someone levels while there are still some unallocated points from the previous level up (if there is an indicator on the portrait for stat and ability points, for example, removing either could avoid the crash).

Try getting one character killed before they level, and see if that avoids the crash.

Video Crashing on Level Up -- NPC issue w/Fix (the possible fix is dismissing a companions, which is not applicable in this case)

Please email supportdos@larian.com, with a description of the problem and the report.zip file generated by the D:OS support tool (for the PC version). The report will contain system and game information, any crash dumps, and your saved games. To reduce file size, if that is an issue, you can delete all but your save before the orc fight.
While this is a know issue, it is not reproducible, so additional information may help isolate the cause.

I tried killing one of my characters but it did not stop the crash, the game+computer crashed a few turns after one of my characters died. I also tried removing the overclock I had on my CPU, which also did not stop the crash. Retrying the same scenario (killing one character) the game+comp. still crashed.

I sent my report.zip to the email as well.

Thanks you for your help but it seems that that is not the problem.

You can try approaching close enough to trigger the orc landing, but not enough to enter combat, and then maybe run away for awhile so the spell effects, etc, are not being shown on screen. You wouldn't get experience that way, so if the game still crashes, that would eliminate levelling as an issue (letting one character die at least showed it wasn't the same problem levelling that some others have encountered).

BTW, if you do the tutorial cave and explore the starting beach, it is possible to get to level 2 before the orc fight, rather than during/after.

This time I decided to just trigger the fight and walk away and the game/comp still crashed. It seems like it is inevitable. Nothing was happening on screen other than, me looking through some of the menus.

So i think it is fair to say that it had nothing to do with leveling.

Anything else that you might recommend?

Actually I think the issue is not with the game but rather with my computer setup in general. I was playing some Diablo 3 and the same crash happened. Which indicates that the problem is not limited only to D:OS.

Sorry if I have wasted your time and again, thank you for your help.

Was the crash in Diablo 3 triggered by a particular area or group of opponents?
In D:OS the orc battle is the first with more than a couple opponents, allied NPCs and other things being triggered, and more elaborate spell effects and environmental interactions possible.

If the crash isn't time based, it may be triggered by how much of a load the game is putting on the CPU/GPU/RAM, or some particular graphics or sound effect...

Sorry that I haven't posted in a while but I have just moved house.

I actually was able to fix the issue by deleting and re-installing all my video card drivers.
I also just did a basic maintenance check up on computer, cleaning parts and such.

I turned on the computer and booted the game, and it worked! (for more than 3 minutes that is)

I am now thoroughly my time in D:OS.

Thanks again for your help!
