Most belts, bracers, body armor, sarongs and shields can be enchanted with a ruby or alternatively an essence of every type, granting you up to 25% elemental resistance on each item.
If you want to protect a char there is no better buff spell than the elemental shields. In addition to the effect in the description, they absorb damage equal to the health of the target.
Other than Nullify Resistance, Soultap and Drain Willpwer are both awesome spells against the dragon.
