A couple days ago during my playing, I unlocked the Hall of Heroes and looked through some of the mercenaries for hire. I had done the quest where you decide which of the two people to save with the healing stone, then I went to the door with the crime scene, which teleported me to Homestead Hall where Zixzax told me a new portal had opened up. It was the Hall of Heroes.
At this point I had not yet come across Madora and Jahan. I knew there were two companions so I held off on hiring any mercenaries. Later, after encountering both Jahan and Madora, I decided that I hate both of them and would rather hire mercenaries of my choosing, especially since my two main characters are already knight/wizard, which is exactly what Madora and Jahan are. I want to add an archer and a rogue and it would be a pain to force Madora and Jahan into these roles.
So I just now went back to Homestead Hall to hire a couple mercenaries, but the Hall of Heroes portal is no longer open..... Why not? I haven't progressed anywhere past Cyseal yet. Is this a bug or what?
