I cannot play the game since the release of the full version. I had no problems with Alpha build. After the update to the full version the game lets me to create the new profile and than I have a loading screen that lasts forever. I sent an email to larian studios and got an email back with some tips and checks. Did all that and nothing works. I sent them the report generated by the game analysis tool and had no response since. Recently I uninstalled and downloaded the game again (I have steam version) and still no improvement. I'm greatly disappointed. Any help would be appreciated

So you don't get to the main menu?

There is a replacement D:OS My Documents folder you could try in the topic Crash on startup [Solved]. That may help if the problem is in creating the new profile, rather than loading the main menu.

If you have a 32 bit version of Windows, see some suggestions in the topic: save still causing crash after latest patch.


Most of Larian was on vacation for two weeks, until yesterday, so support has been a little slow.

Hi Raze,thanks for your reply.

I run Win 7 64bit. Like I said, there was no problem with Alpha, I skipped Beta, so I don't know if that worked. The full version doesn't. I haven't changed my system. Lowering resolution doesn't help, removing graphicSettings.lsx doesn't help. The game stops on loading screen with the main characters holding hands. I looked at the Crash on startup topic and I downloaded and replaced the files in My Documents/larian Studio, still doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

Try starting the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping\EoCApp.exe' program file. Perhaps right click and run as administrator.

Did you try verifying local files? The re-install should have fixed any missing or corrupt files, though.


These were probably in the support email, but:

Did you check for driver updates, etc?

If you start dxdiag (click Start or WinKey-R, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does your sound device show up with the name and drivers?

Uninstalling AMD Gaming evolved (raptr) software has fixed startup crashing for some people.

Check if the support packages for the game are installed correctly (in ..\steamapps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\_CommonRedist).

I am having exactly the same problem.

I was able to play the game without any problems during beta. I was also able to play the first released version but right after what must have been the first patch after release this problem appeared.

When I start the game I am now getting a screen that displays keyboard instructions and a "loading" dial. But it keeps loading forever, even if I leave my laptop on over night. I reinstalled, upgraded my graphics card drivers, increased my RAM from 4GB to 8GB, upgraded Direct-X, disabled my virus scanner and so on. I waited 2 months for a patch to solve this problem. All to no avail. Divinity won't start and I can't play it.

My configuration is a relatively new Windows 8 laptop that I bought during the past 12 months. It is definitely a healthy configuration that works with other games, including very demanding ones.

You should not be seeing that loading screen. It was replaced before the game was released.

A couple other people have recently reported this same problem. In two cases it was fixed by installing the game to a different location. One person (who was getting a crash at that point) mentioned installing it on a different drive, while the other (experiencing an endless loading screen) just said they uninstalled, got rid of anything D:OS related they could find, and then re-installed to a different folder. A third person (endless loading screen) didn't report back if these suggestions helped, or not.

Maybe try moving the install folder to a different location (outside the Steam install path), and starting it directly from the '..\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping\EoCApp.exe' program file.

Steam has a backup function, so you may be able to backup/restore the game to a different location, rather than reinstall and re-download. If you do try reinstalling, you may be able to skip the download part by pausing the download when it starts, copying the install folder (previously copied or moved) to the new location and then verifying local files in Steam.

Also, you could try checking your hard drive for errors, to make sure there is not a corrupt file or something from the alpha carrying over into the release version (in Windows Explorer, right click on the hard drive, select Properties and under the Tools tab, Error-checking section, click on the 'Check now' button).

Here is what solved my problem:

1. I backed up the game via Steam
2. I used the "delete all local files" option in Steam
3. I renamed the remaining Divinity Original Sin sub folder inside the Steam directory into something else
4. I restored the game from the Steam backup

Only backup and restore without step 3 above did not work, but renaming/removing the folder solved the issue.

Hi,

I recently deleted my D:OS installation in steam and then reinstalled it on
another harddisk due to space issues on my main harddisk.

After launching the new install it loaded into the old alpha loading screen
showing the keyboard layout hint as described by some in this thread.
It crashed immediately afterwards to desktop.

This was done on Windows 7 64bit,

I then did the usual things like verifying my cache, reinstalling the 3rd party programs and renaming my larian-documents folder but all failed.

I then deleted my D:OS on steam again.
I deleted all remaining larian/D:OS related folders in the
steam library and the documents folder and reinstalled D:OS
clean on the same harddisk/steam library.

This solved my problem.

Thought I would leave that here.
