It's true. At the end of my playthrough in the last couple of days, I tried to get rid of my money by buying all the legendaries and crafting stuff I could get my hands on, just because I could. I ended up with 100k gold more than when I started doing that.
As for the gold slider, I agree entirely. It is incredibly awkward to offer a specific amount of gold with the current system.
