Some people have had problems with
Zixzax not opening new portals when he should (either due to an issue with Zixzax or the conversation with the NPC in each opened room).
In some cases Zixzax can be reset (getting him to continue opening portals) by teleporing or killing him, but this is the first I recall seeing a spontaneous update doing everything at once.
It is by design that new rooms do not open while the homestead is under attack, so depending on how long that lasts people can get multiple rooms opened one after the other. People have also just missed talking to the NPC in the last opened room.
