Earlier in the game, before getting the better armor and the better charms it wouldn't hurt to use some of the "wimpier" colored charms. If you have armor that you don't thing you'll ever change hold out for the better charms. I was quite dismayed when I "finally" found some very large charms and had no place to put them. This being just after I decided to put white charms everywhere...because "I was never going to find any better ones!"
