same problem here, game is pretty slow, very hard to enjoy, having the same macbook pro retina 2012 i7 2,3Ghz, 650m, 16GB. Game is unplayable if i don't close all other applications on the mac, but even with all closed it's still not a smooth experience.
what do you mean with fake fullscreen? I'm playing the game fullscreen (on low quality, but whichever quality I choose doesn't seem to have an effect on the performance).
