I haven't played in a while as I was waiting for the new companions.
I know that a patch a while back made all the monsters that pop out of the city graves high level (8 I think) that of course let them slaughter your low level party quite easily.
Was this ever fixed? Or is it by design that those creatures are high level?
Thanks.

My low level party had not really any problems to defeat one single lvl 8 enemy. You even could lure them into some soldiers which can accompany you if you really have such huge difficulties to defeat them. So IMHO there is nothing to "fix". One dingle opponent Lvl 8 should be much easier than 4 opponents of lower lvl I guess...

It's great that you didn't have a problem, but maybe consider it from other angles also.
What's stopping the player digging up the grave at, say level 2, before they have had a chance to recruit any companions. Can a party of two lvl2s take on a single Lvl.8 zombie? After playing the game for, let's say, 2 hours with no prior undead fighting experience? What of the dog who joins the fight and dies? Etc.
I'm not sure if it's a bug or intentional. It *feels* like a bug though, if only when compared to something like the exploding grave - you get plenty of warning to step away from that incident. I guess I feel like a sudden encounter with a Lvl8 tricky enemy might benefit from *some* sort of signal, even if it's only just something written on the related gravestone, "Died in his underpants at level 8. May well have been something he ate." At least the player can look back and think "ohhh, okay." instead of just going "what? that's bullshit!"
I don't know though, I haven't gone back and looked at the area since the change. Maybe there's an autosave trigger? Maybe there's something else.

Perhaps it's there for a reason => learn to quicksave regularly I have to confess, at the beggining of the game, these fights were a test for me : If I pass my class combo is good, if not I reroll char

Well last time I did it I ran, but the dog and woman died. The zombie followed me to some soldiers which it also killed. Honestly I was beginning to fear it was going to wipe out half the town but some more soldiers came in and together we killed.
At that point, not knowing any better I would have never touched a grave again, but of course several quests ... including the main quest, requires it.
I take it from what you are saying though that this is still a problem after the last patch?

Not so much a problem as it is a learning experience.
Back in Divine Divinity, as soon as you start the game, if you went up, you'd be in a graveyard. If you read one of the tombstones it'd warn you about not moving a certain pot of flowers onto it. If you did that, a certain zombie wold rise from said grave and proceed to be a tough fight.
Plus, if you read the tombstones, they kind of hint at it being a bad idea, particularly when it says they were killed by a zombie.
Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

One shouldn't disturb the dead, especially in a town surrounded by undead.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I guess after finishing the game you'll say this was one of the mist memorable experiences and special fight... Well I'd take that perspective at least...

I managed to kill them on normal and keep the grieving woman and dog alive. You just have to be lucky enough to get a CC off that gives you a 100% chance to hit and you have to finish them before it wears off.

Or, you know... mark the graves that are dangerous in your mind and come back at higher levels. Custom map markers help with that.

As someone who dug up every game in the game, I can say that there were more than enough deadly graves with unremarkable tombstones. There were also quite a few completely safe graves with ominous epitaphs. There is no consistency between tombstone description and whether the grave is booby trapped.

There isn't any if the grave in question is out in the wild, but we're talking specifically about the ones in the city of Cyseal.
